The QBuffer is probably the most state-of-the-art serial data distributor available. The unit provides a full 1kV isolation between the input and each of the four outputs. Each output section is fitted with both 3-pin and 5-pin XLR’s.

All of the eight output lines are fitted with signal status indicators which will highlight a line fault at a glance.

An M10 securing bolt is incorporated for attaching a hook clamp, as well as a steel loop for securing a safety chain. A through line output is provided which may be terminated at the press of a button, should the unit be the last connection in the chain.

But what does it do and why do I need one?

• Unlike analogue signals, DMX signal cannot be Y-split. If you want to split a DMX line, a QBuffer is the answer.
• Damaged or suspect cables can potentially do a lot of damage; even a routine thing like changing a fuse is a hassle when that fuse is several metres up in the air. A thoughtfully-placed QBuffer is the answer.
• Earth loops are a common problem. Once again, because the DMX input and output are isolated from each other in the QBuffer, earth loops cannot occur.
• Getting the pin-outs wrong when soldering a plug to a cable will result in overloading and signal reflection. Such a problem can’t get past a QBuffer and is therefore localised.
• Should you happen to be lighting something the size of a football stadium, the QBuffer will amplify the DMX signal, ensuring that the last device in the chain is as responsive as the first.
